When I had my first interview for a job opening here at Platte River Networks the partners both told me that this is an organization that “Works hard but plays hard.” Playing hard means different things to all of us. From hanging out with friends on the weekend, slipping away from our Colorado headquarters for a quick mountain getaway or taking a week or two beyond the United States for that dream vacation. Traveling across international lines, as we all know, can make mobile phone use almost impossible and costly. A coworker of mine suggested I try one of his favorite FREE traveling apps called WhatsApp. WhatsApp Messenger, as it’s officially called, is a cross-platform mobile messaging app which allows you to make phone calls and text over wifi without having to pay for SMS. If there is wifi available that means you can stay connected to your office or home at no extra charge. Check out the details on what this amazing app can do for your IPhone, Android, BlackBerry and your wallet!
Destroying your business can be done by an innocent employee error, malicious hacker, or even more destructive, by a natural disaster. So many times we hear “We have good backup”, well, good backup is just not good enough these days. The smarter option….Business Continuity. What is business continuity? Simply put, it’s just common sense. Take responsibility for your business and enable it to stay on course whatever storms it is forced to weather. It is about “keeping calm and carrying on”! Watch and learn…

Revenue + People Boom!
Wow what a year we had at Platte River Networks! The Denver economy continues to outperform the rest of the country and we experienced the same type of growth with a 30% jump in revenue over last year increasing from $5.9 million in 2014 to $7.7 million in 2015. Since 2013, our revenue has grown by 15%, 22% and 30% respectively; and we are currently estimating another 30% jump in revenue for 2016. In order to accommodate our continued record growth, we welcomed 20 new faces to the Platte River team of 47 employees. Most of our new hires fulfilled technical needs including: field engineers, field technicians and help desk technicians. We also added to our sales and accounting departments.
In 2015, we proudly opened our new corporate headquarters on Washington Street just north of downtown. Our new 12,000 square foot facility allowed us to upgrade our Intuition Network Operation and Help Desk Center. We also invested in our own private data center upgrading and expanding our server infrastructure. The new space has 40 parking spaces and allows us to host our own events accommodating up to 150 people. We continue to build out the space including a new workout gym for our employees opening in March.
Brand New Look
2015 saw a brand new look for Platte River Networks including new logos, website, tag lines, marketing material, etc. Our updated branding helped increase our website traffic by over 80% welcoming a record number of organic leads coming into our company. We also saw a jump in new hire candidates coming directly to our website seeking employment including highly technical and motivated individuals who have since joined our growing team.
Awards, Awards, Awards
Platte River Networks was honored with a record 10 awards in 2015 both locally and nationally. Our company was specifically recognized for growth, customer service, technology innovation, employee satisfaction and service delivery. Some of the awards included finalist for the APEX Award – Top Technology Company in Colorado and finalist for the Governor’s award for Top 50 Colorado Companies to Watch; but by far our favorite award was Top 10 Best Places to Work from the Denver Business Journal. Our goal since we opened our doors 14 years ago was to create a fun, healthy and productive work environment and to have our employees recognize us as one of the Best Places to Work in Denver was a testament to that commitment.
We continue to enhance and improve our award-winning signature product INTUITION providing complete IT managed services to any size company across any industry. The success of INTUITION continues to grow our diverse client base. In 2015, we welcomed new customers in a variety of verticals including: legal, medical, financial, manufacturing, Gov/Ed, retail, hospitality, construction, oil, gas, mining, engineering, professional services, and real estate. We also continue to see growth outside of Denver including clients in NY, Florida, Texas, Illinois, California and other states.
Our HUGE successes in 2015 is the direct result of our wonderful customers and awesome staff. Without all of you Platte River Networks would not continue to see record growth and improvement. THANK YOU!
We look forward to another banner year in 2016 and we promise to continue to build, improve and grow our business in order to provide our clients with the best IT services available and provide our employees with a kick ass place to work and grow.
We have had a few amazing days of warm weather here in Colorado this week but look out! We are in for a huge dump of snow and freezing weather on Monday. Although the ice and snow can hamper driving and become dangerous, the freezing temperatures can be serious to your health, your home and your electronics. Read some great tips HERE from the American Red Cross to help keep you, your homw and your loved ones safe during the upcoming months. Stay warm and have a wonderful weekend!
It has been a cold wet winter so far in Colorado and nationally, but snow isn’t the only thing hitting hard right now. This past week Platte River has seen 3 Crypto infections. Crypto Ransomware is a type of malicious software (malware) that infects a computer and restricts access to it until a ransom is paid to unlock it. “I cannot stress enough to the importance of good, regular backups and up-to-date AV”, says Elon Grad, Platte’s IOC Support Manager. The newest version of Crypto even detects and deletes Shadow Copy files. In November 2015 the developers of CryptoWall released a new version that is now called CryptoWall 4.0. We found this post on “Bleepingcomputer.com” that offers an Informational Guide and FAQ to help you better understand the virus and what to do should your computer become infected: READ HERE

After having her son in 2005, Treve’s wife, Dana Suazo, started visiting a gym to get in shape and exercise. Thinking about her health, and the health of her son, made her realize how important it was to have healthy kids in the community. Starting as a volunteer, Dana Souzo has helped a Colorado based non-profit 501(c)(3) Healthy Learning Paths succeed in their mission to “Be Well, Learn Well” using an evidence based curriculum. Now as an employee, she helps empower kids, parents, teachers and the community at large with knowledge, and strategies for success in health, learning and life.
Healthy Learning Paths
A physician by trade and philanthropist at heart, board-certified family medicine physician Chris Marchioni, MD, spent years observing the toll that unhealthy habits take on children. In 2005, Dr. Marchioni took action by giving up her practice and establishing Healthy Learning Paths, a model of healthcare designed to empower children and families to take control of their health by arming them with scientific knowledge.
“As a physician, I saw too many kids develop serious and preventable diseases such as anxiety, depression, obesity and Type 2 diabetes—chronic illnesses that were once only seen in adults,” Dr. Marchioni says. “Something needed to be done.”
Kids are struggling with health issues and they need more help. According to Dr. Marchioni, communication was the missing link that could help enhance childhood health in the Longmont community. Dana pointed out that, “Most of the existing health programs are just about watching a video. Our lessons are taught directly to kids and parents in small groups by health professionals, including- family physicians, school psychologists and nutritionists.” Through Healthy Learning Paths, kids actively engage in the fun, dynamic, age-appropriate lessons using many skills—literacy, movement, fine and gross motor skill development, math and science, preparing and eating healthy foods, play and music. “We read a story, we discuss what we are going to do, then the kids get to do a lab, for example kids hear a story about Ava the avocado and they make guacamole.”
Here is a video of Caden doing a small part of the Ava the Avocado lesson. When you eat something with fat, you feed your heart and your brain. Your heart and your brain are hungry for healthy fats. Unhealthy fats clog arteries in the brain and heart. This leads to strokes and heart attacks. Caden explains why you should eat healthy fats found in avocados, olives, nuts, seeds, and salmon.
Proudly involved in our community
Whenever there is a fundraiser or gala, Platte River Networks is there to help. We sponsor, volunteer and participate in almost every event. We also sponsor the annual Frank Shorter 5k and Healthy Odyssey Expo, their biggest fundraiser for the year. The event helps build community where families get outdoors together doing something fun and active.
